2008 Sandy River Steelhead Report 1

For me the season started slow on the Sandy River. Not that the fishing was slow, all my buddies were having good success. The true joy of parenthood for Mia and I has kept us wanting to be home with Tegan, (14 weeks old now) as much as possible! Life is great! She is so alert, happy, and strong.
I have been out guiding a couple of times each week since January. The fishing has been fun. Every day it seems we have a good chance at connecting with an agressive bolt of steel. This is true Winter steelheading on the swung fly. The reward for long hours of speycasting is the chance at one of the trophies the Sandy can yield at anytime. This year while guiding I have witnessed many heartbreaks of big fish lost near the end of the battle. There is some kind of crazy, wild, super fighter strain of fish this year! Some really hot ones!
March is here and the time for booking your spring trip on the Sandy River is now. March through May the water temps warm, days get longer, and more fish enter the system. Not only are the big spring Steelhead natives in the river but also the hatchery brood stock, summer run Steelhead, and Spring Chinook start to show up! Give me a call or shoot me an email to get the best availability!
Here are a few photos shot from the last month. Enjoy:
