New to my media equipment is a Canon GL2 camcorder. This has been a fun tool to use not only to capture video of tough fighting Steelhead but also as an instructional feature in casting. Being able to review casting techniques of yourself is very helpfull to actually see where adjustments in casting are needed. Being able to review a battle with a trophy Steelhead is epic! I hope to make a full feature video of red hot Steelhead action, filled with many clients like Dennis from last week, "getting it done!"

On Monday we fished hard without a grab. That is Steelheading. On Thursday we had a nice overcast day. Mark Metzdorff (photo to the right and video below) landed this very fresh native hen. Tom Derry had a good fish grab his fly in a little secret run. He blamed not hooking it due to "being rusty" since he had not landed a Steelhead since September. I think he did everything just fine on that fish. You can't hook them all. |
| On Friday, I guided two very accomplished fly anglers from Washington. It was a sunny high pressure day. The water was very clear, cold, and low. We saw plenty of Steelhead in the runs we floated through. I would have really liked these guys to get into a few fish. As it turned out Jack had the only action with a brief very hard pull in one of the fishiest and hardest wading runs on the float. 4 boats on the water this day and no action for anybody. The fish were not "grabby" today. Still a great day with a couple of fantastic guys! |
